R P V (remotely piloted
vehicle)
(From the book "Solar Wind Volume 2")By : Deborah Susan Jones : Editor Another piece created exclusively for The Solar Wind Picture Library, the copyrights licensing division of the Artist's company Solar Wind (after which the Solar Wind books were named). As mentioned elsewhere in this book, demand for the Artist's work was so intense during the 1970s on-wards into the late 1990s (when the Artist decided to go "self-published" and no longer concentrate on having "other publishers" publish his works) that whenever he could fit them into his work schedule, he'd create extra works that could be licensed to publishers "from the library" if they found themselves in tight or indeed otherwise unsolvable deadline situations. RPV (remotely piloted vehicle) was created to satisfy any book cover requirement for a space hardware image. Given the not inconsiderable reputation the artist's space hardware images had gained, and very quickly from the start of his career, the publisher could feel secure that, even if the image did not exactly fit the book's story-line, but was at least a "near approximation", a deadline crisis could be avoided and sales flow maintained.
