Another unusual occurrence in the
Artist's output at that time, when asked to create a black and
white illustration to be printed inside the book as well as creating his
usual the cover art.
"As with Howard's other book that I covered, the Omnibus, I also have no memory of being asked to draw this and no recollection
as to why. It is, perhaps, possible, that as around that time Futura
Publishing had been told by the UK's leading book shop chain, W.H.
Smith, that they would take "any book that has a Peter Jones cover" (and
so I was no longer obliged to create "prelims" or "roughs" as we called
them in the UK back then) that this drawing was actually done "just for
fun" to include and not as a prelim for the cover art."
